Since our last blog update, a few things have happened at our Almshouses. We have had our annual founders’ day celebration – this is something that we do each year to celebrate the founding of our charities, our residents, along with our governors and a few Dignitaries, such as the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, the High Sheriff and the Lord Mayor of Leicester, came together for a lovely service in St Ursula’s Chapel before being treated to a wonderful afternoon tea, catered by Zest.
It was a fabulous afternoon with a lot of laughter, cake and good spirits!
We have also been lucky enough to have a statue erected in our gardens – handmade by a wonderful artist named Joel, who has an extraordinary eye for detail. The statue is in memory of a late Resident, who left a donation for us to be able to do so.
So far, the statue of the Swifts has gone down well with those who have seen it, it was even unveiled by former Lord Mayor Theresa Aldred, who took time out of her busy schedule to pop by and do us the honour. The swifts look beautiful, sitting just to the edge of our main patio, surrounded by gorgeous plants.
To go with this new feature, we have also looked into purchasing some swift boxes to pop up around the site – we hope it will encourage even more wild-life to our Almshouses, to join the variety we spot around already; Foxes, Robins, Woodpeckers, Tits, and many more.
We also only have a couple of weeks now until our annual Sea-Side Day! This year, along with the games and drinks, we’re lucky enough to have organised a Hog Roast!! We last did this when King Charles was crowned! So there are certainly a few people looking forward to this event!
We hope to see lots of smiling faces there – Friday 24th July.
