Sheltered Accomodation

William House comprises 56 apartments in addition to a full range of communal facilities including lifts to each floor, communal laundry, guest room, residents library, lounges, meeting rooms and our administration offices. The scheme is surround by our five acres of landscaped gardens. Our residents have the reassurance of help at hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from our Wardens with an emergency alarm service in every property. In addition we offer pastoral support from our Church of England minister (known at the Charity as the Master) where requested.

As a non-profit-making charity all the income we create through our operations goes into providing services for current residents and developing services to meet the needs of future residents as well as our other Charitable activities

Keeping Active

Our residents are encouraged to maintain an active lifestyle – retaining links with friends and the wider community whilst enjoying the many in-house facilities and activities available. These include a Library with books refreshed on a regular basis, a cinema room showing both old and new favourites, hairdressing salon with a visiting hairdresser. Everyone is welcome to join in the many varied activities and socialise as and when they wish.

Sheltered Housing Scheme and Service

Wyggestons welcomes applications for William House from persons over the age 60 from all sections of the community regardless of gender, sexuality, disability, religious belief, race or ethnic background.

All those who are interested in our accommodation are invited to visit William House to meet with staff and view the facilities and services that we offer.

If you wish to proceed with applying for our housing we ask that you complete an application form which are individually considered, assessed and prioritised on the basis of assessed needs to ensure that applicants’ needs can be appropriately met by our services. All applicants are visited by one or two Governors by prior appointment to confirm the levels of support needs required and to ensure that the accommodation would be suitable and the organisation can meet your needs.

Please note that the Charity operates a waiting list for our accommodation and we prioritise applications with the highest need in accordance with our Allocations Policy.

Who is William House designed for?

William House consists of self-contained apartments set in five picturesque acres, offering sheltered accommodation for the over 60s.

What facilities are at William House?

There are a range of communal facilities including two lounges, lifts and guest room, a library with books refreshed on a regular basis, and a hairdressing salon with a visiting hairdresser.

What types of support do you provide?

We provide support and assistance for residents to enable them to remain independent. The service does not provide personal care as this would be arranged if required through a care agency. We have wardens on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a state of the art warden call system.

Can I bring my own furniture?

The Charity provides unfurnished properties but all our kitchens include integrated cookers and hobs as well as Refrigerators/Freezers.

Does my room have a TV?

If you’d like a television in your own flat you can bring one, as a TV point is provided.

Fees FAQs

Do you accept local authority-funded residents?

Yes, we accept those in receipt of benefits and privately funded residents.

Do I need to sign a contract?

Yes. All our residents are Beneficiaries of the Charity and therefore we provide a licence agreement to reside at the Almshouses. Wyggestons will explain all our terms and conditions including costs before asking you to sign and agree

What are your current charges?

We currently charge around £200 to £235 per week.

What do the charges include?

The charges are made to cover the costs of the accommodation including utility bills, staffing & administration costs, maintaining the property and communal areas in addition to building costs and repairs funds.

Your Home FAQs

Can a relative stay over for a visit?

Yes we have a guest room available for visitors (which is charged separately).

Is there a programme of activities?

Yes, we run regular activities to which all residents are invited. Everyone is welcome to join in and socialise as and when they wish.

Can I bring a pet?

Residents of our sheltered accommodation William House are permitted a caged bird but not other pets.

Your Security FAQs

Do I need insurance cover?
If you bring items with a high individual value, you must have your own insurance in place for these. Wyggestons has all appropriate insurance cover otherwise.
